UFC 217 Is Going Down November 4
UFC 217 is going to be a fight for the ages. Everyone will remember the day George St Pierre returns to the Octagon – it has been four long years since his last fight. What’s going to make this fight one to remember is his opponent. Michael Bisping is no fighter to sleep on and we’re telling you why!
Michael “The Count” Bisping
Bisping is one of the most well-known UFC fighters in the world. He is the first English fighter to fight in a UFC main event as well as the first English fighter to win a UFC championship. He fights for his country and continues to make them proud through each fight he takes on.
In 2006, Bisping was a competitor on The Ultimate Fighter. In the finals, Bisping defeated Josh Haynes by TKO at 4:14 in the second round. Bisping was the second Light Heavyweight winner of The Ultimate Fighter series.
Just five short months after his win, Bisping was scheduled to fight Eric Schafer during The Ultimate Fighter season 4 finale. Issues with his visa cause the fight to be rescheduled and held December 30 at UFC 66. Bisping won by TKO at 4:24 in the first round.
Four months later Bisping returned to the Octagon in Manchester, England with a TKO win over Elvis Sinosic at UFC 70.
He coached season nine of The Ultimate Fighter series which concluded in a loss to Dan Henderson. This was the first time Bisping had ever lost by knockout.
Micheal “The UFC Champion” Bisping
Bisping stepped up on only 17 days' notice to face champion Luke Rockhold for a second time in June 2016 at UFC 199 after an injury forced Chris Weidman to pull out of the fight. He won via knockout in the first round. Making him the UFC Middleweight Champion and the first British UFC champion.
The result is considered by many to be one of the biggest upsets in the UFC title fight history. Rockhold was the greatest fighter in the game at the time and Bisping took the fight on such short notice. Not to mention he had been submitted in his first encounter with Rockhold.
Now the champion, Bisping was given a rematch against Henderson at UFC 204. He won by unanimous decision and retained his Middleweight Championship.
Can he hold onto the title once again?
