The UFC's Top 7 Walk-Outs

Posted by Rory Harris on Mar 3, 2015 9:00:00 AM

There is a moment at the beginning of any UFC® fight card where the anticipation heightens and the tension boils as each fighter takes their turn walking out through the tunnel into the Octagon™. Music fills the venue and the crowd erupts in a chorus of cheers, boos and screams!

FOX_5436Any true UFC® fan knows the fighter walk-outs at the beginning of each bout make for some of the best moments of each and every fight card.

The walk-out is a huge UFC® tradition. For those who don’t know, fighters come out into the crowd and enter the Octagon™ while a song they picked to represent them and intimidate their opponent blares over the speakers.

Walk-out songs are used not only for intimidation, but to encourage the fighter and, of course, get fans geared up for success or failure. Here of some of UFC's best walk-out songs:

1. Ronda Rousey: “Bad Reputation” by Joan Jett

Although Ronda Rousey has a good reputation for taking out opponents, the female bantamweight champion chose this gritty revolt as her signature song. If the song was intended to psyche out her opponents, her record has proved it's working. The undefeated Rousey remains the queen of the UFC® after her recent victory at UFC® 184.

2. Johnny Hendricks: “50 Dollars and A Flask of Crown” by Bleu Edmonson

The Oklahoma native and former welterweight champion stayed true to his country roots when picking his walk-out. Johnny “Big Rig” Hendricks’ trademark song talks about the simpler things in life and a country boy who, “stands his ground”… that sounds about right.

3. Cain Velasquez: “Los Mandados” by Vincente Fernandez

A tribute to the fighter’s culture, this tune has been the soundtrack to Cain Velasquez’ climb to MMA success. The cheery, upbeat song, all in Spanish, is a stark contrast to the heavy-handed champion’s fierce takedowns. If you read the lyrics, however, the song suddenly seems a little more appropriate.

1480200014. Anderson Silva: “Aint No Sunshine” by DMX

Anderson "The Spider" Silva chose a revamped and rap-induced remake of the old classic to use as his walk-out. One of the first lines reads, “now you don’t want to fight,” possibly poking at other fighters’ dread of having to face the MMA legend.

5. Robbie Lawler: “Hold On I’m Coming” by Sam and Dave

A fan-favorite walk-out, Champion Robbie Lawler’s choice pays homage to his long climb to the top of the UFC®.  Having experienced multiple set-backs in his career, the current welterweight champion may change his tune now that he has finally arrived.

6. Anthony Pettis: "Showtime" by Tum Tum ft. Jim Jones

In honor of his Octagon™ alter-ego, Anthony "Showtime" Pettis picked this aggressive rap which reinstates his love for the spotlight each time he walks in to bask in it.

7. Jon Jones: “God Gave Me My Style” by 50 Cent

Few fighters have done what Jon “Bones” Jones has done. What’s more is the light heavyweight champion has appeared to have risen to top with ease. His choice of walk-out song fits his obvious confidence and hubris each time he arrives to knock-out another challenger.
