It might’ve been the first time in her career that women’s bantamweight champ, Rowdy Ronda Rousey heard cheers, but after a dominating victory over her toughest challenger to date, she finally heard it! Chris Weidman slugged through a grueling five-round battle with UFC tested, former champion, Lyoto Machida, to emerge with his title in tact and silence any who felt he needed to prove himself.
For UFC VIP Experience guests, there was so much more to the weekend than a night full of “best of the year” fights. With a special appearance by UFC President, Dana White, VIP access, behind the scenes tours, an epic hospitality party room, meet-and-greets, and lots more, UFC® 175 will be tough to top!
FRIDAY – Backstage Tour
For most fans attending UFC® 175 Friday’s pre-weigh-in events consisted of waiting in a packed out Mandalay Bay Events Center lobby with several hundred other fans! Doors for the general public opened at 3 p.m. to kick-off Fighter Weigh-ins. For UFC VIP Experience guests it was a different story. They walked right up to their dedicated check-in table to collect their VIP passes and were taken to their reserved floor seats. Situated right in front of the stage for the best views of the scale, VIPs were first taken on an exclusive backstage tour!
Backstage and past the curtain, guests were given the one-of-a-kind opportunity to meet the fighters who would be in the Octagon during UFC® 175! Despite being exhausted from cutting weight, each fighter took the time to pose for pics and make our VIPs feel truly special. Fighters who stopped by the backstage tour included:
- Chris Weidman
- Lyoto Machida
- Alexis Davis
- Urijah Faber
- Stefan Struve
- Chris Camozzi
Then it was time to head back to their reserved seats because weigh-ins were about to kick-off! After the Octagon girls, Dana White, Joe Rogan, and UFC hype man, Burt Watson, hit the stage, each fight’s fighters were brought up to weigh-in and square off.
When the co-main event came around, Rousey was met with boos so loud that those in attendance could barely hear her interview (of course things would change after UFC® 175). Weidman and Machida were up last and elicited chants of “U-S-A”, “Machida” and “Weidman”, getting everyone hyped for an amazing fight card!
SATURDAY – Octagon Tour & Rehearsal
With doors opening up at 3 PM for general admission, UFC VIP Experience guests got in early at 1:45 PM for a special behind-the-scenes tour! VIPs met at our check-in booth, snapped a quick picture to kick off the experience and were whisked away to the Octagon!
VIPs were able to watch the UFC® 175 rehearsal and sound check up close and personal. For guests who opted-in for an Octagon tour the experience was even more incredible. It was shoes off and a short climb into the caged arena that the fighters would be battling it out in later that night.
Guests got inside to feel, jump around and experience this unique stage. Then they took turns holding and posing with the Official UFC Championship Belt! Each guest posed with this (surprisingly heavy) strap while others took in what it’s like to stand in the middle of the Octagon!
VIP Hospitality Party Room
Once the tour was over, guests were taken back to an exclusive VIP luxury hospitality party room in the arena!
Front and center was a full-service bar with 360 degree service and seating. In one area TV screens were lit up with the latest EA Sports UFC video game. In another area, guests posed with an unique ice sculpture of the glittering UFC belt and Octagon!
There were TVs everywhere you looked with simulcast coverage of the prelim fights so guests didn’t have to miss a second of the action—those who wanted to be in their seats for the fights walked through their own entrance back and forth to their seats as their hearts desired!
While taking everything in, guests noshed on the gourmet buffet filled with fresh sushi, carving stations, dessert buffets and more. Additionally the bar kept the drinks flowing all night. Then our VIPs spent the rest of the time meeting some of the biggest names in the UFC!
Newly crowned welterweight champion Johny Hendricks, hung out in the party venue meeting VIPs, posing for pictures and chatting with guests. Before Hendricks, UFC commentator Mike Goldberg posed with fans in front of the ice sculpture.
Then long time UFC ref Herb Dean stopped in for a bite to eat, and a chance to meet the VIPs! Octagon girl Vanessa Hanson swung by between rounds and even got in a video game against an excited young VIP. Soon UFC® 174 victor and featherweight champ Demetrious Johnson stopped by! Johnson stayed to hang out with VIPs, take pictures and talk about his predictions for the night’s fights. The meet and greets didn’t stop there…
Kenda Perez was inside the VIP Party Room for several hours interviewing fighters, one in particular, Jake Ellenberger, stopped by to chat with Perez. Brazilian Octagon girls Jhenny Andrade and Camila Oliveira along with Japanese Octagon girl Azusa Nishigaki also greeted UFC VIP guests. The girls stopped to take pictures with VIPs who requested one and sampled the food buffets for themselves.
Then VIPs were in for a real treat, they lined up to meet a special guest inside the roped off “Super VIP” section. From behind the curtain emerged UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta and President Dana White! Both men made the UFC VIPs feel extra important, and stopped for pictures and autographs with our excited guests!
White even weighed in on his thoughts for the Rousey vs. Davis match to come! After that it was time to head back for the main card. All of guests filed through their special entrance to the arena, reminiscing already about the amazing party room experience!
UFC® 175 Fight Recap
Weidman vs Machida
The champ was able to silence the detractors. We know he’s a good wrestler, we know he can knock someone out, but on July 5th he went toe to toe with one of the best fighters in the world and dominated.
With a unanimous decision victory Weidman won standing up and on the ground. In what’s sure to be a fight of the year contender, the champ maintained control for all except round 4. Machida tried to end the fight, knowing he was behind in the score cards, however, Weidman’s jaw held and he was able to finish the fight and add another one to the win column.
Rousey vs Davis
If you blinked, you missed it. Seriously.
In what was to be the biggest test of the champ to date, Rousey obliterated Alexis Davis. Both women came out swinging, but after Rousey caught Davis with a solid right and a knee, she executed a perfect hip throw then, rained blows on her challenger until the referee called an end to the match.
Rousey was congratulated by thunderous applause and cheering from the capacity crowd after her dominating performance.
Uriah Hall def. Thiago “Marreta” Santos via unanimous decision
Russell Doane def. Marcus Brimage via split decision
***Stefan Struve was deemed unable to compete against Matt Mitrione by UFC doctors, after collapsing in the locker room.
Urijah Faber def. Alex Caceres via submission
Kenny Robertson def. Ildemar Alcantara via unanimous decision
Bruno Santos def. Chris Camozzi via split decision
Rob Font def. George Roop via knockout (punches)
Luke Zachrich def. Guilherme Vasconcelos via unanimous decision
