UFC 184 Rousey vs. Zingano: Betting on the Bout

Posted by Rory Harris on Jan 19, 2015 9:03:00 AM

At UFC® 184, the queen of the UFC®, Ronda Rousey, will defend her bantamweight champion belt for the fifth consecutive time against the recently returned Cat Zingano.

Rousey has ruled women’s MMA for several years, and as of now, Zingano is the best candidate to attempt to take her out. The two will duke it out at as the main event at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Although it is hard to imagine Rousey ever losing her title, nothing is out of the quesiton in the unpredictable world of the UFC®.

Here are 3 reasons to bet on either one of the undefeated women’s bantamweight fighters at UFC® 184:

Ronda Rousey Right3 Reasons to Bet on Rousey:

  1. She is the Undefeated Champion

It is harder to come up with reasons not to bet on Rousey. With an undefeated track record and having consecutively defended her title four times since she became the champion, no one can dispute her obvious skills.

  1. Her Grappling

Grappling is what she does best. Up until her fight against Sara McMann at UFC® 170, every fight she had ever won was by cringe-worthy armbars.
  2. Her Improved Striking

In her last two bouts against McMann and Alexis Davis, she won via knockout. Although striking has not always been Rousey’s strong suit, she has spent the last few years working on it and has become a much better fighter on her feet.

3 Reasons to Bet on Zingano:

  1. Her Will

184 Event Facts Co MainZingano has been through the ringer. She has proved she has incredible endurance in and out of the Octagon™.  In the last year, Zingano has had to deal with a torn ACL, the tragic death of her husband and a back injury which is what originally pushed back her title bout against Rousey.

However, she blew everyone away when she returned from her time off to face Amanda Nunes and knocked her out in the third round, once again making her the number one contender for Rousey.
  2. Her Wrestling

Zingano is one of the best wrestlers in the division, and it may be what sets her apart from the handful of failed Rousey opponents. In the past, she has frequently been able to get her opponents to the floor and ground and pound them with punches for the win.

However, it is hard to top Rousey’s grappling. So, we will see.
  3. If not Zingano, then who?

Even the UFC® greats like Anderson Silva and George St. Pierre lose their reign eventually. Rousey has reigned for several years, dominating the division with precision and confidence. If Zingano, the best opponent the UFC® has been able to come up with for the bantamweight queen, cannot take out Rousey, then who can?

If Zingano is to take Rousey out, many predict it will be on her feet. However, as previously mentioned, Rousey’s striking has almost come up to the level of her unbeatable grappling.

Regardless, we will not miss a chance to see the best women of the bantamweight division go head-to-head in what is sure to be an intense match-up!
