Is it November yet? Normally, we don’t rush past Halloween and welcome the colder weather that November brings, but this year is a little different: UFC 193 is slated for November 14th! For the first time in the history of combat sports, both the main event AND the co-main event are among females. What does this unprecedented fight card have in store? Let’s find out!
Main Event: Women’s Bantamweight Title Fight
Defending women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has had an insane run in the UFC thus far, taking down all of her opponents with ease and making us all wonder whether a worthy rival exists for her. Even UFC president Dana White admits that “she makes it look easy” and that she is scary good. She’s one of the most recognizable athletes in the world today, male or female, and currently stands undefeated in the UFC.
Rousey may have a glittering reputation, but Holm is no slouch in the ring and has made it clear that “things can change.” Holm is currently 9-0 and is a former professional boxer and kickboxer who’s been winning by headkick knockouts during her time in the UFC. This may not seem like a match for Rousey’s record of 12-0, but Holm has issued her fair share of TKOs, sitting at 67% compared to Rousey’s 25%, and knows how to protect herself against an iron fist such as Rousey’s. That being said, MMA fighting is an entirely different animal than straight-up boxing. The wild card will likely be Rousey’s grappling, which may be difficult for Holm – who relies heavily on range and distance – to defend against.

Co-Main: Women’s Strawweight Title Fight
Letourneau fancies herself an underdog in this upcoming bout, but her 16 years of fighting experience may come in handy as she takes on Jedrzejczyk for the women’s strawweight title. Jedrzejczyk made history as the first female European UFC champion, and Joe Rogan describes her as “one of the most devastating strikers in MMA today.”
Letourneau has been labeled one of the most serious threats to Jedrzejczyk’s title. She’s fought hard in order to earn a shot at the title, winning her past three rounds – two of which were won by unanimous decision. Joe Rogan describes her as “an excellent kickboxer, a highly accomplished striker, very good on the ground, and she comes from American Top Team.” Though Jedrzejczyk’s record stands at 10-0 while Letourneau’s is slightly tarnished at 8-3, we expect to see a knock-down, drag-out fight from these two ladies as they battle for the strawweight belt.

Co-Main: Heavyweight Match-Up
This is a rematch of what many consider to be the greatest heavyweight fight to date in the UFC. That event – UFC Fight Night 33 – actually took place down under, too, in Brisbane, Australia! The 2013 match-up saw these two contenders in a battle that was as long as it was intense, lasting five bloody rounds as the two fought tooth and nail all the way to the finish. The bout ended in a draw, earning Fight of the Night honors and the prize money that came with it.
These two contenders weren’t spring chickens the last time they fought, but if anything, in spite of aging they’ve gained momentum and energy since their bout in December 2013. Hunt was quoted as saying that he actually declined that fight because both Hunt and Silva were members of American Top Team, and Hunt didn’t feel comfortable fighting training partners. Both fighters managed to put on a heck of a show even though both had come off of losses back then, so we’re looking forward to seeing what they have in store for 193!
