The UFC is one of the most fascinating organizations, and MMA is one of the most riveting sports. Think you’re a big fan? Test your knowledge, and check out these 13 things you might not know about the UFC and MMA.

When the UFC first began in 1993, there were no weight classes, no real rules, no time limits and no rounds. Can you imagine?

Anderson Silva has the longest UFC win streak with 16. Igor Vovchanchyn holds the longest winning streak in MMA history with 32.

Conor McGregor grew up a soccer player. He also began a plumbing apprenticeship at 18.

Lyoto Machida drinks urine. Yes, you read that correctly. He said he learned the habit from this father. He claims it has minerals and elements that bind moisture to protein - this is widely disputed, but to each their own!

The first event in UFC history to not have a knockout was “UFC 76: Knockout.” The irony.

FACT #11

Zuffa – the parent company of the UFC – translates to “scuffle” in Italian. How fitting.

UFC Veteran Emmanuel Yarborough is the only fighter to get an MMA win via smother. Nothing like putting your 700-pound self on top of your opponent and using your belly to swallow his head.

FACT #13

MMA is the sport. UFC is the organization. UFC is to MMA what the NFL is to football.
