4 Things You Need to Know About UFC 177

Posted by Niala Samnarine on Aug 4, 2014 4:33:00 PM

We’re hurtling towards UFC® 177 fight night and you may think you know everything about this card, but there are four things you need to know:

Someone’s out for revenge
Correia takes on the 2nd Horsewoman
It’s in Cali
YOU can be there

Revenge for Barao

For featherweight champion TJ Dillashaw, this is a rematch against the top contender in his weight division.

For Renan Barao, it’s revenge plain and simple.

Earlier this year, these two headlined UFC® 173 in Vegas and Dillashaw walked away with a late fifth round TKO victory. Herb Dean called a stoppage to the fight when Barao was unable to stop a ground attack and the new champ was crowned.

There has been a lot of talk from Barao’s camp, with Dillashaw continuing a relentless training regime with Team Alpha Male. After the five-round clinic Dillashaw put on at UFC® 173, and Barao’s domination of the featherweight division, this rematch is sure to be one for the ages.

Bethe Correia takes on Shayna Baszler

Anyone who was watching at UFC® 172 got the message loud and clear. After dominating Jessamyn Duke, Correia’s hand was raised as she took the UD victory. If her performance didn’t say enough, Correia used a simple hand gesture to send a message to the other women in her division.

After the match was over, Correia lifted four fingers, putting one down to symbolize the loss to one of the four Horsewomen.

(Backstory: Marina Shafir, Ronda Rousey, Shayna Baszler and Jessamyn Duke form the four Horsewomen, a group of MMA fighters that train and live together in SoCal.)

It would appear that Correia is looking to unseat each and every one on her quest to the championship, ultimately ending with a matchup against Rousey. That said, the only thing on her mind right now is Baszler.

California Love

THE UFC last touched down in California on December 14, 2013 in Sacramento for Johnson vs Benavidez 2. Still, a California fight night was overdue for west coast fans!

Many fighters hail from and train in California, including main event the featherweight champ and main event headliner Dillashaw, his Team Alpha Male teammate Danny Castillo along with several other fighters on the card.

Cali is a huge hub for MMA fighters and UFC fans alike. For UFC fans coming from out of town, Sacramento is the perfect backdrop for this event. With loads to do, see, eat and enjoy, this is the perfect spot for some UFC action.
