Could These UFC Fighters be Each Other's Good Luck?

Posted by Rory Harris on Apr 6, 2015 1:56:00 PM
Champions are champions, regardless of their circumstances. However, there are some UFC® fighters who seem to put on some of their best performances when paired together.

“Bones" and “Cowboy”

Bones and CowboyAt a passing glance, Jon “Bones” Jones and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone do not have much in common.

“Bones”, a New York native and family member of two NFL players, has dominated since coming onto the MMA scene in April 2008. When the UFC® signed him later that same year, they did not know just how good he was. The eight-time champion has won all but one fight since his signing, most of them by knockout.

Unlike Jones, “Cowboy” had a slower climb to MMA success. Known for his insatiable desire to keep fighting, the Colorado-born Cerrone is still trying to get on top of the lightweight division.

So, what do these two different fighters have in common? Well, they might just be good luck for one another.

Earlier this year at UFC® 182, Jones won against top contender, Daniel Cormier, during their long-awaited battle. In addition, Cerrone was able to beat Myles Jury.

GilbertMelendez_HeadshotMelendez and Velasquez

The last time Gilbert Melendez and Cain Velasquez fought on the same card, the two were the stars of the show. At the unforgettable UFC® 166 in the fall of 2013, Velasquez defended his title against Junior dos Santos in a match that left fans in awe. Dos Santos was almost unrecognizable after Velasquez finished him with a slam and a punch resulting in a technical knockout.

Melendez won his bout against Diego Sanchez the same night by a unanimous decision. After dominating Sanchez, he went on to win the "Fight of the Night" honors.

The two will once again return to the Octagon for UFC® 188 on June 13, at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico in Mexico City, Mexico. Let’s see if the two can bring two more haunting performances to UFC® 188.

How do you think these good luck charms will perform in their upcoming bouts? Do you think there are other fighters who perform best when paired with one another on the same card?
