UFC® 213 Fighter Break Down

Posted by Allie Shriver on Jun 15, 2017 4:16:34 PM

While we’re thrilled about the Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather faceoff coming in August, we’re laser focused on UFC 213 in just a few short weeks! This fight card is sure to be one heck of a night. We can’t wait to see these brawls live in person. Today we’re looking at the top four matchups going down during UFC 213 and International Fight Week.

 Werdum vs Overeem

We've been anticipating this fight for some time now and UFC 213 is the perfect time to see these two settle their score. Overeem (42-15, 1 NC) enters as the winner of five out of his past six fights, four of them via knockout. His only loss in this stretch was a first-round loss to current UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 203. Werdum (21-6-1) also has just one loss to Miocic tarnishing his recent run. Werdum has won seven out of his last eight bouts. This is going to be a heavyweight fight you won't want to miss.

Lawler vs Cerrone

If you’re not hyped for this fight, then you’re wrong. This is a matchup for the truest of UFC fans. These two come into every fight ready to work and have the fight of their lives. This is a must see fight of the year. Cerrone (19-4) and Lawler (12-5) have reputations as two of the toughest guys in the UFC. Both have displayed a willingness to stand and trade shots but, most importantly, they aren’t afraid to lose. Both fighters are coming into this fight off crushing losses and are ready for redemption in their weight class.

Romero vs Whittaker

I won't lie, I am shocked to see this fight going down at all. I wanted a Bisping title defense at 213 and feel like we got robbed. This interim middleweight title feels like a slap in the face but who am I to judge Dana White’s decisions. That being said, don’t sleep on this fight. These two fighters are hungry to show what they can do and how important their weight class is to the sport. Romero (8-0) has been on the sidelines since November where he defeated former champion Chris Weidman with a flying knee. Whittaker (9-2) is 6-0 since he moved up to middleweight and is looking to improve that record at UFC 213.

Nunes vs Shevchenko

This is a title fight worthy of your time. These two have faced off before when both fighters were up and coming in the UFC. Now both women are established and looking to bring the women’s division further than ever before. Nunes is hungry to prove she is the best and keep her belt. Shevchenko is biting at the bit to dethrone Nunes and will do just about anything to do it. This is a must see in person fight!
